  i have to hand it to the society.

  they understand the power of organization.

  they demonstrate that no matter how ridiculous your message and how much the facts don't support your position you can still accomplish a lot if you are organized.

  A more holistic approach, one that seeks to free individuals and families from all manner of cultish organisation, would be much more difficult to undermine and more likely to win wider acceptance from the population at large.

  It would be THE most effective approach. Imagine if an ex mormon was able to put together examples from their literature of the same mind control tactics used by the JWs. Another mormon would run scared from such 'apostate literature' and vice versa.

  Steve Hassan's website does not provide this. There is a massive gap for a website drawing parallels between cult practices from their own literature.

  Parallels to The Borg in movies?

  hope y'all don't mind if i ghost write this post for my husband.... i recently let my friend borrow my copy of the movie "the island".

  for those who haven't seen it, the plot takes place in a futuristic setting in los angeles where science has perfected human cloning.

  the latest rage in medicine is to have a clone made and maintained for you should you ever need it for organ transplants.

  well i have been lurking for the past couple of weeks and have finally decided to create an account.

  just wanted to introduce myself and relate my life story in the borg, specifically from the past few weeks- which i think has been a lot easier than many on the board.

  anyway, my mum began to study when i was 10 (2005) and since then has been babtized; she strongly believes it is the truth.

  Sorry to hear that. You've had to deal with a fair bit of crap already in your life.

  I understand how you feel about your mum and brother, it's why I still keep a toe in the organization.

  When it comes to friends though, they are very much conditional friendships.

  Has there ever been any research conducted on JW suicide rates?

  ... and if so, could you provide me with a link to the results?.

  i've read on-line that the suicide rate for jws is 4x that of 'worldly' people.

  that figure doesn't sound too shocking to me, and i'd expect it to be even higher among teens... especially those who would be already considered 'at risk' even without the jw element.. but i still haven't seen any actual published statistics.

  Pirata had a good idea that I would have liked to see explored further. At this point the link to the site he created is dead.

  So many good ideas here but never sufficient will to see them through. That's not a criticism of Pirata but a general observation of the ex JW community.

  European Court to favor the WT and condemns the French goverment

  unfortunately, the european court of human rights has just condemned the french government against jehovahs witnesses.

  if you recall, the french state was claiming 23 million euro (abt 33 million us dollars) taxes on contributions received by the french watchtower during the years 1993-96, which, by now, had climbed to about 58 million euro (abt 83 million us dollars) counting interests and charges.. it is not easy to size the wt.
